Summary
"RG & AS Jones & FLP" applied for Outline Planning Permission at Weston Road, Failand for:
"proposed residential development of up to 500 dwellings, 60 no. C2 residential apartments with care for persons aged 60 and over, single form entry primary school, B1 employment space, convenience store, doctors surgery / consulti" (sic)
The applicants appealed to the Planning Inspector against non-determination of the Planning Application by North Somerset Council. A Planning Inspector was appointed to conduct a public Inquiry which sat for 9 days starting on 9 March 2010 and concluding on 31 March 2010. The Inspector is due to report by 11 June 2010 her recommendations to the Secretary of State who will decide, on or before 16 August.
Wraxall and Failand Parish Council, together with Long Ashton Parish Council, were a "Rule 6 Party" using professional representatives to participate fully in the Public Inquiry.
FLP appear to be taking a high-risk punt at making a very large sum of money by winning Planning Permission for the land at Weston Road and then selling it on, hoping to make a huge profit. They must not succeed. Destruction of this Green Belt would set a precedent for destruction of Green Belt elsewhere locally, in North Somerset and in England.
